PTK ARCHITECTS is a Chennai based firm established in 1983 as a proprietary concern, and subsequently grew into a partnership. The firm comprises a well experienced work force of fifty architects and engineers many of whom have been with it for a decade or more. During its three decades of practice, the firm has been involved in several major industrial, educational, housing and commercial projects all over India and overseas.
What started out in 1983 as an architectural firm with a civil engineering division has now grown into an integrated design and project management group dealing with the entire spectrum of skills needed to establish a working facility that is well networked into its larger environment. In recent years the firm has successfully completed assignments for demanding clients like Daimler, BSH – a firm set up jointly by Bosch and Siemens, Michelin and Renault Nissan. It is now a firm where architecture and engineering are equal partners in design and innovation.
The need to be creative in conditions of scarcity was a skill developed in our early years. It was a skill that integrated architecture and engineering to produce elegant designs, where value engineering helped optimise costs and disciplined planning led to efficient space utilisation to get the most out of limited resources.
These values of proven universality are the building blocks of our practice. In the complex ethos of today they are needed all the more to be able to make educated choices and avoid the pitfalls of uncharted waters (untested technologies) and excesses in design that ignore contextual necessities in a search for the spectacular. The need of the hour is to network ever more closely with a wide range of scientific and engineering skills than before to produce environmentally sustainable and energy efficient buildings.
In a globalising world where technology tends to override geographical and social concerns a humanist approach to design will help link people more closely with the built environment around them. Cultural references and sensitivity to local contexts help overcome alienation and anonymity that are so common in public places today. We are especially mindful of these issues in our work and we take great care in designing and organising spaces accordingly. Our designs, therefore, do not exhibit characteristics of any particular school of thought, but are a response to the physical contexts and ideologies surrounding them.

Our work culture is based on the fact that architecture is now recognized as a multidisciplinary field and design solutions require extensive collaboration with other professions to render integrated and sustainable solutions. The increasingly complex nature of problems require a free flow of information between team members, clients and other stake holders for quick response and decision making. Project timelines and cost management aspects are high priority at all stages. At PTK a fully digitised design process facilitates this information flow right from developing design concepts through to completion of the project. Unquestioned Integrity and a strong work ethic are our core values and the means to a transparent relationship with all. An employee profile that combines youth and experience makes for a well balanced mature and capable team.
Work is done on current versions of Autocad, Revit, Promate*, Staad 2, MS Projects and other MS office software programmes which permit easy exchange of files between authorised team members and clients and their authorised suppliers.
