Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) Oragadam plant stands as the only documented green-certified factory worldwide with a 400+ acre integrated campus achieving IGBC Green Factory Building Platinum rating, featuring comprehensive sustainability measures like energy efficiency, on-site/off-site renewables, water conservation, waste management, biodiversity enhancement, and workplace quality aligned with DICV’s SPUR framework, encompassing truck/bus manufacturing, engine production, supplier park, R&D, training, and test track for global exports.
Key design aspects of its green rating include:
- Renewable Energy: The facility achieved 100% renewable energy utilization for its Scope 2 emissions (indirect emission from purchased electricity) ahead of its 2025 target. This is achieved through the on-site solar power generations and off-site procurement.
- Water Management: The plant practices “zero discharge of water”, meaning no water leaves the plant premises. Measures include large rain water harvesting pond holding more than 60,000 kilolitres. In addition, two advanced sewage treatment plants that treat and recycle water suitable for irrigation and flushing.
- Waste Management & Biodiversity: The facility has dedicated systems for the handling and disposal of hazardous materials and planted over 16,000 trees to enhance biodiversity within the industrial complex.
